Sending SMS in Finland and Sender ID requirements
From May 2026, unauthorized Sender IDs in Finland will be changed to “Unknown” and the messages might be blocked. Later, the Sender ID can be changed to “Scam” and the messages might be blocked.
Authorization for sender ID is mandatory as of May 4th, 2026.
Mandatory measure - authorization
To send business SMS messages in Finland, all Sender IDs must be authorised before use. This requirement applies to all organisations sending SMS to Finnish networks, whether messages are sent via API or through platforms.
All Sender ID types that may be used must be authorized, including alphanumeric Sender IDs, long codes, and short codes, both Finnish and international.

Optional measure - protection
Sender ID protection is an optional security measure organizations can take if they want exclusive right to the Sender ID in Finland. Local regulator Traficom approves protected Sender IDs based on applications and charges an annual fee for them.
Sender ID protection in Finland is an optional security measure available for organization registered in Finland. Only alphanumeric sender IDs can be protected.
In order for the SMS Sender ID to be protected and its exclusive right can be granted, the SMS Sender ID applicant requests to be protected, must be exactly the same as the applicant's business name, auxiliary business name or parallel business name in the Finnish Business and Community Information System (YTJ).

How to protect a Sender ID in Finland
We recommend contacting LINK Mobility before applying for protected Sender ID. We will walk you through the application and setup processes as well as benefits and consequences of protectign your sender ID.
Apply for protected sender ID via the application form on Traficom website.
We recommend reading the official instructions before proceeding to the application form.
Following a successful application, Traficom will share the registeration document with you (usually in few business days). Keep this document safe. It is needed for the set up process.
After the Sender ID is successfully protected by Traficom, there is a 3-month transition period. After that any unlicensed traffic with the registered sender ID will be blocked. During the transition prediod, you must conduct the steps below.
LINK Mobility does not protect Sender IDs on behalf of our customers or customers of our partners. Applying for a protected sender ID is an official process that cannot be conducted by other parties.
How to use a protected Sender ID in Finland
1. Check whether the Sender ID is registered
You can check whether the Sender ID is already protected from the official list on Traficom website.
2. Collect documents needed:
Traficom Registeration Document (see above)
Letter of Attorney (LOA) authorising LINK Mobility to set up and manage the sender ID. (LINK provides you with the correct LOA template).
3. Map traffic and activate the protected Sender ID
Work with LINK Mobility to map out relevant traffic and implement the protected sender ID to all relevant parties needing to use it. Our experts walk you through each step of the way.
Additional information for partners and resellers
Partners and resellers must ensure that their customers are aware that the end customer, as the actual sender of the message, is responsible for the use, accuracy, and registration of the Sender ID. This includes ensuring that all required registrations, approvals, and supporting documentation are completed in accordance with applicable local requirements before traffic is sent.
LINK Mobility does not register Sender IDs on behalf of partners’ or resellers’ customers, unless otherwise agreed. LINK Mobility may provide support to partners and end customers throughout the registration process. Responsibility for providing correct information, obtaining any required approvals, and complying with mandatory Sender ID registration processes remains with the end customer. Partners and resellers should inform their customers of these obligations before sending traffic to destinations where Sender ID registration is mandatory.
